I've had so much headache with Mint 6, so now it's back to Mint 5, at least that version was solid as a rock, everything really DID work out of the box!
In Mint 6 I have trouble with sound, applets disappearing, shared network drives not working and whatnot...
It seems to me that when Mint switched base from it's own to a more "pure" Ubuntu base the troubles started...
...and this is all version, not just XFCE...
Too bad, there were some nice additions to Mint 6 that I really liked...
...but somehow that rock solid Mint feeling got lost along the way, now it feels more and more like Mintbuntu...
Well whatever, I just needed to rant about it, I don't mean to upset anyone!
Elyssa here I come!
I reinstalled Mint 5 XFCE CE (20 minutes in total
)and all is back to normal, settings and all!
Hopefully Mint, as well as Windows
will get better with the release of 7
It seems I'm not the only one having these thoughts, the thread in the
Linux Mint Forum can be followed
